Children’s Climate
Call has now officially been opened. The 56 teams are ready to
compete and the atmosphere at Bella Center is full of excitement,
enthusiasm - and nerves.
It is 10 a.m. on the
first day of Children’s Climate Call. Bella Center is vibrating
with energy and excitement. The Opening Ceremony is about to begin.
MC Paul Sleem enters the stage, and the 56 teams from 29 different
countries start to march in across the stage. It is like watching the
opening of the Olympiad –only better. Teams are dressed in
incredible costumes and outfits. They are cheering, clapping,
shouting, dancing and singing; they are more than ready for the first
day of competition!
The opening speech
is given by Lisbeth Valther Pallesen from the LEGO Group. She is
proud to be here to welcome the 700 winners from the national finals.
“You are our future, you can make a difference, and this event is
all about giving you a voice”, she says to the teams.
Frozen
marshmallows and waves rolling through Bella Center.
Circus Naturally
performs a show for the spectators that shows some of the cool
experiments you can do when you have an insight into physics and
chemistry. “Don’t try this at home”, they warn the audience.
They use liquid nitrogen which is –200 degrees Celsius to freeze
marshmallows which they encourage three team members to eat. And they
throw coffee creamer powder on fire which instantly flares up.
Paul Sleem gets a
wave rolling through Bella Center and asks everyone to shout out
“LEGO” when it is their turn. Everybody joins in. The noise level
is incredible when the wave hits the rows where the teams are seated.
They are psyched and cannot wait to get started.
It is almost time to
kick off the robot competition now. There is only one question that
Paul Sleem needs an answer to. “What time is it? he asks. “LEGO
TIME” everybody shouts.
Good luck to all of
the teams and have fun!
