Presentation:
The history of the CaroAces begins in 2001. In those days headmaster Henry Tesch was in Boeing Space Camp in the USA at the invitation of the NASA. Several units of the robotic topic belonged to the practical trainings and seminars. The participants received first instructions and practical exercises and in the end there was a little competition between the various teacher teams. This was the dawn of a new era, the start of the, up today, undaunted excitement for the Lego Mindstorms subject. In 2003 the adventure “Lego robots” commenced with a training event by the Lego firm in the Carolinum, Neustrelitz. The department of Computer Science took charge for the Purpose and organizes ever afterwards and with energetic support of the school’s leadership the special course at the grammar school. “We are searching for the best!” Saying this, the CaroAces advertise themselves once a year in the 9th classes for finding new comrades. Always in March the new team begins with its education. Once a week, before the finals also more times, the students meet in their Lego room which is specifically equipped for Lego Mindstorms. The CaroAces are trained by students from classes 10 to 12. „Students teach students”, that means for the trainers to be teachers for young human beings, to take charge for a group, to resolve conflicts with them and to encourage the youngsters to bring in their strengths. This sounds quiet easy but is a permanent learning process for all concerned parties, even for the present teacher. The culminating point of work is the annual participation in a contest of FLL. The pupils of Carolinum underwent their baptism of fire in autumn 2004 at “No Limits”, when for the first time the Carolinum took part in the regional final of Hamburg. In 2005 the team was called “CaroSubmarines”, one year later “Nanotecs” and since 2007 the team of the Carolinum appears as “CaroAces. Within all the years they could win the regional finals and qualify for the Central European Championship. The participation in the OEC is so far the greatest success of the CaroAces. Another highlight at the highest level was the visit of Daniel R. Coats, ambassador of the USA in Germany with his wife Marsha in grammar school Carolinum in January 2005. The students of the Carolinum introduced the guests, of course in sovereign English, the project of Lego Mindstorms and demonstrated an extract out of the Mission Mars. Afterwards they invited Mr. Coats and his wife to join the game, who would be the first to shoot the skip in the orbit with his/her robot. The ambassador was truly impressed how business works in Carolinum and on which high scientific-technical level young talents are promoted. The CaroAces became friends with many other Lego teams. This is what they are proud of. There are the MCO Robots (Berlin), the WeRobots (Cottbus), the SAP Relevators (Burgwedel) as well as the Pelestorms (Paderborn) and the team of Attraktiv&Preiswert (Menden).
